MEET THE ARTIST!

Born in Birmingham in 1983, Bowyer first began drawing with colored pencils when he was a child. While his parents were sleeping he would sneak downstairs during the early hours of the morning and draw from illustrations and images from the covers of his step-dad's record collection.

 

Later during his teenage years, he began to paint and draw at night in his bedroom on paper, card, and the back of gig posters using whatever materials he could find. He then went onto study a Bachelors Degree in Painting at Manchester Metropolitan University between 2005-2008, which lead him onto completing a Masters in Painting at The Royal College of Art in London between 2008-2010. Now Bowyer continues to make art and travel, has taught art classes at a high school in Germany, and has attended Camberwell College of Arts and Chelsea School of Art & Design (London) as a Visiting Lecturer.

 

Bowyer's work explores painting and drawings that are influenced by his everyday experiences, traveling, personal and comical narratives, and his interest in the characteristics of his chosen materials. He often works with themes and ideas that can create an on-going visual appearance that creates a consistency in his language as an artist and makes way for new ideas and experimenting with a variety of materials.
